LSC FY 2007 Funding Approved by Full House Appropriations Committee

Friday, June 23

  • Organization: Brennan Center's Legal Services E-lert

Following the recommendation of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Science, State, Justice, Commerce, and Related Agencies, the full House Appropriations Committee has approved $313.8 million for LSC in its FY 2007 budget -- a $12.7 million cut from FY 2006. During the mark-up of the bill on June 20, the subcommittee rejected two amendments that would have increased LSC's FY 2007 appropriation. The first, offered by Congressman Alan Mollohan (D-WV), would have raised the appropriation to $405 million. The second, offered by Ranking Member David Obey (D-WI), would have raised the appropriation to $338 million. Next, the bill will go to the full House of Representatives for approval, then to the Senate Appropriations Committee and the full Senate. Any differences between the House and Senate bills will be worked out in a House-Senate conference committee.
