NLADA Legal Aid News reports: "President Bush submitted his FY 2009 budget recommendation to Congress on Monday, February 4th, and funding for the Legal Services Corporation remains unchanged from his recommendation for last year. The President recommended $311 million in FY 2008 and has requested the exact same funding level for FY 2009. In his recommendation, $290,134,000 would go to basic field; $3,041,000 to the inspector general's office; $12.825 million to management and administration; $5 million to technology initiatives; and $500,000 to loan repayment. The President's recommendation falls more than $39 million below the FY 2008 omnibus appropriations bill. LSC delivered its FY 2009 budget request to Capitol Hill on February 1st. LSC is seeking $471.3 million, an increase of $40.6 million over its FY 2008 request."
