Calling for Nominations for National Awards for Pro Bono, Public Defender, and Legal Services

ABA PRO BONO PUBLICO AWARD
The Pro Bono Publico Awards were established by the American Bar Association in 1984 to recognize lawyers and law firms for extraordinary noteworthy contributions to extending legal services to the poor and disadvantaged. The recipients exemplify the volunteer tradition of the legal profession. The ABA's Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service administers the program. Each year the Pro Bono Committee Service presents five awards to individual lawyers and institutions in the legal profession that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to volunteer legal services. The awards will next be presented at the Pro Bono Publico Awards Luncheon on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA. HARRISON TWEED AWARD
Named for an outstanding leader in the promotion of free legal services to the poor, the Harrison Tweed Award was created in 1956 to recognize the extraordinary achievements of state and local bar associations that develop or significantly expand projects or programs to increase access to civil legal services to poor persons or criminal defense services to indigents. DORSEY AWARD
The Dorsey Award recognizes exceptional work by a public defender or legal aid lawyer. Eligible recipients are lawyers who serve indigent persons, in the employ of legal aid bureaus, indigent defense, or Legal Services Corporation funded legal organizations providing legal service to the disadvantaged. To be eligible, nominees must be employed by an entity that receives government funding. For more information visit (deadline April 1, 2010)

JOHN H. PICKERING AWARD

The award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding legal ability and a distinguished record of service to the profession and their communities, resulting in significant contributions to improving access to justice for all. For more information visit (Deadline Feb. 14, 2010)
