Children in Florida will have increased access to legal aid as a result of the April 15, 2005 launch of Florida's "Kids Deserve Justice" specialty license plate. The revenue generated by the $25 plate will go to the Florida Bar Foundation, which will in turn award grants to legal aid organizations in Florida that provide direct legal assistance to children. Florida Bar President Kelly Overstreet Johnson says, "Funding and volunteers for representation for children in court has never been adequate to meet [the] need." Johnson notes that the license plates "will provide a continuing revenue sources for children's legal services." Local legal aid organizations will be able to use funds generated by the plates to provide such services as representing abused or neglected children, advocating for special education testing and services, and helping foster children obtain services they need in order to successfully transfer out of state care.
