"The Summit was designed to build on recent progress by generating consensus about how to replicate successful programs and approaches more effectively, to identify the next generation of self-help ideas and approaches, and to consider how to provide ongoing support and advocacy for this issue. With these objectives in mind, 49 individuals met in Chicago for a two-day meeting in March 2005 to develop a three-to-five year strategic plan for improving access for self-represented litigants. The Summit attendees represented a broad array of justice system stakeholders including state and federal courts, legal services agencies, private bar organizations, and national research and advocacy organizations, as well as nationally recognized experts in self-self program design, implementation, and management. The Summit report details the substantive recommendations and action plan developed by the participants."
