The Congressional conference committee with purview over the Legal Services Corporation has approved $330 million for LSC's FY 2006 appropriation.
The appropriation, equal to the level approved by the House of Representatives in June, is nearly $30 million short of the level approved by the Senate in September. On November 3 and 4, conferees from the House and Senate met to iron out differences between the bills approved by each chamber. House conferees rejected an amendment proposed by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) that would have split the difference between the funding levels in the two bills.
Both chambers now must approve the measure, but there can be no amendments to the bill agreed upon by the conference committee.
